DPSCommunity.org Podcast
Here it is, the 2,346,745th podcast that everyone has been waiting for:) From time to time Patrick and I will give you a summary of things happening in DPS, and provide overviews on other interesting articles and research in K12 more broadly. We are just finishing up our final edits on our first episode and it will be accessible within the next few days.
In addition, we have a number of interviews lined up with interesting people:
Kathy Schultz is the Dean of the College of Education at UC-Boulder, and we will discuss her book Distrust and Educational Change. The book discusses how a lack of trust between parties can limit the effectiveness of school improvement – DPS could certainly be another case study in her book – and strategies to overcome distrust.
Peter Piazza is now a professor at UMAss-Lowell after working for the Center for Collaborative Education, and doing a lot of work for MCIEA.org. Peter is a national expert on K12 dashboards, and we will discuss some of the things DPS can learn from others, and questions to consider as we create our own public reporting dashboard. In addition, we will discuss how school rankings increase segregation in schools, and how incorporating broader measures can help reduce segregation.
Tracie Rainey of the Colorado School Finance Project, and Lisa Weil with Colorado Great Education will discuss K12 funding issues in Colorado, for what will be a critically important, albeit depressing conversation:)
Phil Goodstein is a Denver native and one of the most entertaining historians we have ever met. Phil has produced over 20 books on the history of various Denver Neighborhoods and also wrote a book on the history of DPS.
